Mendelics performs genomic analysis from a blood or saliva sample. By sequencing the patient's exome, it's possible to analyze syndromes and genetic diseases, and thus, plan the personalization of the treatment.

About the layout and design of the last medical report:

Technical information is limiting for patients. The reports are made for the understanding of the medical community, and the reading caused anguish for the patient, who often waited for months or years for a solution of his clinical hypothesis.

The report was extensive, with no clear hierarchy of relevant information to the patient, color differentiation and only with technical language. It was difficult to understand where the result was presented, and whether the information was relevant (positive or negative for any genetic disease reported in the clinical hypothesis).

In order to assist patients from other states in Brazil, it was necessary to create a practical, resistant and functional packaging, which could be sent by regular post, plane or by means of outsourced transport.

First, I analyzed the speeches of the employees who worked in the reception of the customers and collected, separated and stored their blood and saliva samples. Then, I analyzed the speeches of the business developers, the employees who presented the products and the company to doctors and outsourced companies that could become partners.

Several important details were taken into account when I create this packaging. I did a detailed study of the benchmarks, studied the minimum sizes for personalized shipping or by regular postage and thought of a format that was easy to store and assemble.

The first report was complex, with four pages of technical content, totally focused on medical community. The page 02, which has the result of the whole analysis hasn't a clear understanding, followed by an interpretation that is also full of complicated terms to be understood by a patient. The patients were out of decision-making when they received this document: copies were sent to doctors and patients simultaneously by e-mail and home.

The writing of the report was facilitated, so the patient can understand the complete content, with less technical and more accessible words. There was three types of reports, for different types of exams avaiable.

Patient and exam information is in larger font size for easy recognition. The result appears just below, highlighted by color and with a list of genes and materials that were analyzed, followed by a colored square. Writing was made easier with less technical words.

This information is separated by "high risk" and "low risk". I used colors to highlight the difference: to conceptualize high risk (concept of danger) I used red, and green to conceptualize low risk (concept of free). With the addition of color beside technical information, understanding is immediate.

This new report was automated, thus helping doctors who report exams to be faster and easier, using a software built at Mendelics.
